Manuel Mendoza es un artista multidisciplinario emergente que se desenvuelve en la pintura, escultura, y música. Completó un Bachillerato en Artes en Saint Josephs University en Philadelphia, y posee estudios adicionales en las artes de la Escuela de Artes Plásticas, el Taller Escuela Rene Delgado, y en la Benedetto Ebanistería Italiana, en Puerto Rico. Ha trabajado y colaborado con artistas conocidos como Zilia Sánchez y Jorge Pardo, Allora y Calzadilla, Jesús “Bubú” Negrón, y Michael Linares. Ha exhibido colectivamente junto a otros artistas en varias ocasiones, y presentó su primera exhibición individual a finales del pasado año en Hidrante, “From A to Z”, curado por Alberto Zayas Montilla.

Mendoza Sánchez presenta su primera exhibición individual en donde explora la apropiación de manera multidisciplinaria a través del collage fotográfico y lo escultórico. Como resultado, nos brinda una instalación que pone en evidencia sus investigaciones conceptuales del alfabeto fonético junto al potencial recursivo del sentido en el lenguaje.
El sentido, o la intención con la cual se expresa una palabra, resulta siempre contingente del contexto en el que se ejerce. Su significado no es otra cosa que esta contingencia que Mendoza Sánchez torna en un juego, trastocando en este caso lo que toma como partida, el alfabeto fonético, para producir imágenes que expanden el sentido primario de este alfabeto. Inicialmente creado para comunicar con precisión una letra a través de palabras, Mendoza Sánchez nos apunta entonces hacia la imprecisión de cualquier lengua o vocabulario irrelevantemente de su uso original.
“From A to Z” enseña algo más innato aún del lenguaje, concepto con el cual Mendoza Sánchez ha trabajado en el transcurso de su carrera emergente. Con imágenes populares y una formalidad primitiva del diseño gráfico que remite a nuestros tiempos de los medios de comunicación social, Mendoza Sánchez apunta la mirada en esta ocasión nuevamente hacia lo escultórico para expandir aún más las posibilidades lingüísticas que ha explorado anteriormente a través de la pintura, las instalaciones monumentales en donde se ha apoderado del espacio público e incluso a través de la música con su participación en “La Exitosa”, agrupación que no se aleja de sus enfoques artísticos.

MEET: MANUEL MENDOZA "FROM A TO Z"
Manuel Mendoza is a multidisciplinary emergent artist that works with painting, sculpture, and music. Completed a Bachelor’s Degree in Arts at the Saint Josephs University in Philadelphia, and owns additional studies in arts from the School of Plastic Arts, the Rene Delgado School Workshop, and from the Benedetto Italian Woodworking, in Puerto Rico. Has worked and collaborated with renowned artists like Zilia Sánchez and Jorge Pardo, Allora and Calzadilla, Jesús “Bubú” Negrón, and Michael Linares. Has presented collectively along other artists in several occasions, and presented his first solo exhibition at Hidrante, “From A to Z”, ending in December 16, and curated by Alberto Zayas Montilla.
Mendoza Sánchez presents his first solo exhibition in which he explores appropriation in a multidisciplinary way through photographic collage and sculpture. As a result, it gives us an istallation that is evidencing of his conceptual investigations of the phonetic alphabet along the potential recursive of the meaning of language.
The meaning, or intention with which a word is expressed, always results contingent of the context in which its used. Its meaning is no other thing than this contingent that Mendoza Sánchez turns into a game, disrupting in this case what he takes as a starting point, the phonetic alphabet, to produce images that expand the main meaning of this alphabet. Initially created to comunicate with presicion a letter through words, Mendoza Sánchez then points towards the vagueness of any language or vocabulary irrelevantly from its original use.
“From A to Z” teaches something even more innate about language, concept that Mendoza Sánchez has worked through his emergent career. With popular images and a primitive formality of the graphic design that goes back to the times of our mediums of social communications, Mendoza Sánchez places his sight this time, again towards the sculptoric to expand even more the linguistic possibilities that he has already explored before through painting, the monumental installations in which he has taken over the public spaces and even through music with his participation in “La Exitosa”, a musical group that doesn’t get far from his artistic endeavors.
