American Airlines esta volando solamente a Miami; United a Nueva York; Southwest, y Spirit a Orlando; Jet Blue a Orlando y Nueva York.

PUERTO RICO: THE AIRPORT'S STATUS

According to the Press Conference at 11am at the Luis Muñoz Marín Airport, Agustín Arellano, Aerostar’s CEO, along with Lic. Omar Marrero, the Executive Director of the Ports Authority, and José Izquierdo, Executive Director of the Tourism Company, informed:

  • That “They’re working 24/7 to ensure that the airport is operation among the current circumstances” – Omar Marrero

  • That each airline haves a waiting list of 20,000 passengers, and it will take from 5 – 6 day per airline to start reducing their numbers.

  • If you have a confirmed reserved flight by Internet, by all means, get to the airport because you will get your flight. But if you HAVEN’T got a confirmation or you got a cancellation notification, don’t try to get to personally at the airport or try to run other errands/ transactions because the airport is not attending any, and you’ll lose your time. They’re only focused on flying the CONFIRMED flights.

  • The only way to get a confirmed flight is by Internet.

  • There are only 10 commercial/ domestic flights flying per day.

  • The reason for it is because the communication satellites of transport were left completely destroyed, and the Control Center of San Juan doesn’t have communication with the aerial management space. Now that when airplanes take off, they go crossing through different levels of altitude, until finding the correct one to fly, and so that Control can assure that there are no impacts through airplanes. So that the purpose is to avoid at all cost a problem of security in the air, and avoid collisions that could put lives in danger.

  • They’re working to try and increase that flying airplanes number by tomorrow.

  • Each airline if only flying 2 airplanes and they’re focusing in ONE route. American Airlines is flying only to Miami; United to New York; Southwest, and Spirit to Orlando; Jet Blue to Orlando and New York.

  • Terminals B and D, had their roofs gone and they’re not operating. Only terminals A and C, are operating.

  • It is expected to START the process of coming back to operational normality in two weeks from now.
