La Galería Rem Project con base en la Calle Canals #204, en Santurce Puerto Rico está inaugurando su próxima muestra colectiva hoy, viernes 10 de marzo de 7 - 11 PM, titulada: “There is always a light to turn off”.
El título se refiere a aspectos de la evolución del humano, el estado y comportamiento en el contexto político y social actual relacionado con la forma en que miramos y comprendemos nuestra existencia en el mundo posible. Los artistas de esta exposición articulan sus respectivas visiones del mundo a través del uso de vídeo, fotografía y escultura que enmarcan un tejido temático basado en la percepción de cómo vemos el presente y cómo pensamos el futuro.
La misma consta de cinco artistas que son: Mariana Vassileva (Berlín), Edgar León (Costa Rica) Jesús "Bubu" Negrón, Myritza Castillo (ambos de Puerto Rico) y el artista Spencer Tunick (NYC), internacionalmente conocido por sus fotografías de instalaciones de desnudos humanos. Como parte de la presentación del proyecto y llegada a la Isla el artista niuyorquino, estará trabajando fotos individuales de personas que han respondido a su convocatoria abierta para así crear su proyecto en PR, que formará parte de la exhibición.
Mariana Vasileva, se vale en su video ‘’Reflections’’, una escena de parque en la ciudad de Berlín que se convierte en una escena lúdica marcada por un grupo de personas que reflectan luz desde espejos intentando cegar la inmensidad de la noche.
Edgar León, en su video construye una narrativa del fracaso de los padres de la patria y de las garantías sociales documentando estatuas de dichos fundadores en yuxtaposición con el entorno que casualmente está invadido por instituciones bancarias multinacionales, las mismas estructuras de poder que han llevado a la extrema pobreza nuestras naciones y países en desarrollo.
Myritza Castillo, por su parte, documenta el aura de algunos espacios que sirvieron como plataforma económica en Puerto Rico y que poco a poco fueron quedando en el olvido gracias a la dejadez gubernamental. El conjunto de fotografías son cuasi una oda al horrror vacui.
Por otra parte, Jesús "Bubu" Negrón, en su video “Igualdad”, interviene una de las últimas centrales azucareras, parte importante de la actividad económica en Puerto Rico a principios de siglo, que al pasar las generaciones fue apagando su llama económica tergiversada por la idea de industrialización y suplantación de la economía basada en la agricultura. En el video, con la ayuda de la comunidad, Bubu Negrón vuelve a encender la icónica llama de la Central Azucarera para devolver la esperanza al menos por un espacio efímero de tiempo.

REM PROJECT PRESENTS THE COLLECTIVE SHOW "THERE IS ALWAYS A LIGHT TO TURN OFF"
The Rem Project Gallery, based in Canals Street #204, in Santurce Puerto Rico is inaugurating its next collective show today, Friday March 10 from 7 - 11 PM, titled: "There is always a light to turn off." The title refers to aspects of human evolution, state and behavior in the current political and social context related to the way we look at and understand our existence in the possible world. The artists of this exhibition articulate their respective visions of the world through the use of video, photography and sculpture that frame a thematic fabric based on the perception of how we see the present and how we think about the future. It includes five artists: Mariana Vassileva (Berlin), Edgar León (Costa Rica), Jesús (Bubu) Negrón, Myritza Castillo (both from Puerto Rico) and artist Spencer Tunick (NYC), internationally known for his photographs of nude humans installations. As part of the presentation of the project and arrival to the island, the artist from New York will be working individual photos of the people who have responded to his open call to create his project in PR, that will be part of the exhibition.
Mariana Vasileva, works in her video "Reflections", a park scene in the city of Berlin that becomes a playful scene marked by a group of people that reflect light from mirrors trying to blind the immensity of the night.
Edgar León, in his video, constructs a narrative of the failure of the founding fathers of the country and of the social guarantees documenting statues of said founders in juxtaposition with the environment that is casually invaded by multinational banking institutions, the same structures of power that have led to extreme poverty our developing nations and countries.
Myritza Castillo, on the other hand, documents the aura of some spaces that served as economic platform in Puerto Rico and that little by little were forgotten due to governmental negligence. The set of photographs are almost an ode to "horrror vacui".
On the other hand, Jesus Bubu Negrón, in his video "Equality", intervenes one of the last sugar mills, an important part of economic activity in Puerto Rico at the beginning of the century. That with the passing generations quenched its economic flame, distorted by the idea of industrialization and supposition of the economy based on agriculture. In the video, with the help of the community, Bubu Negrón returns to light the iconic flame of the Sugar Central to return some hope at least for an ephemeral space of time.
