El pasado jueves 17 de agosto, la ola de arte emergente de la reconocida Calle Loíza nos compartió otro más de sus ingeniosos y dinámicos eventos. Volando Bajito, restaurante y bar, en conjunto con la galería Elegel presentaron algunas de las obras de los artistas visuales JC Rivera, Fisu y Yum. La exposición, titulada "Art Night Recap", se realizó con cierta peculiaridad, ya que las piezas se encontraban colgadas en las paredes del restaurante, lo cual resultó ser un modelo perfecto (alterno) del arte callejero: figuras y trazos altamente vistosos, plasmados en canvas y carteles a la venta dentro de un ambiente altamente transitado.
"It's about giving Art a value..." nos comentó el artista neoyorquino y fundador del espacio Elegel, quien va por el nombre de Stefan, al referirse a la misión de esta galería efímera que aspira a establecer su propia localidad en un futuro no muy lejano. El artista nos habló de cómo en Puerto Rico no se le otorga mucho valor al arte, debido en parte, a la fuerte crisis económica bajo la cual está sumergida la Isla. Al mencionarle brevemente la vibra casual y urbana del evento, Stefan nos comentó: "It's a really chill event..." resaltando que este no es el máximo nivel de trabajo de Elegel, pero que su intención era el incorporar un ambiente de exposición artística a un "hang-out".
Stefan también nos contó sobre su página web www.las50.com, la cual funciona como herramienta para reclutar artistas con el propósito de transformar la Calle Loíza con su arte. Al acceder a la página, se puede leer la causa detrás de su origen, la cual es resumida en las siguientes palabras: "Using popular art to transform the street and drive businesses to the Calle Loiza". También hablamos con Yum, una de las artistas expuestas en su página. Al preguntarle sobre la fusión de la flora y la femineidad en sus obras, nos contestó que su propósito era expresar la figura femenina estrechamente ligada con lo natural.
Podríamos catalogar la exhibición y el ambiente en Volando Bajito como un éxito rotundo para el arte urbano, ya que gracias a su concepto, el espacio provee una amplia gama de exposición y oportunidades para los artistas de la Loíza. Stefan demostró brillantemente la combinación del arte con la diversión y rapidez del ‘’jangueo’’. Elegel está en constante búsqueda de artistas que quieran ser parte del movimiento y el resurgimiento de la Calle Loíza.

"ART NIGHT RECAP": THE EVENT BY AN AMBITIOUS EPHEMERAL GALLERY CALLED ELEGEL
On Thursday, August 17, the new wave of emerging art in the renowned Calle Loíza, shared another of its ingenious and dynamic events with us. Volando Bajito, bar and restaurant, along with Elegel Gallery presented a portion of visual artists JC Rivera, Fisu and Yum’s work. The exhibition, titled “Art Night Recap” was held in a very peculiar way because the artworks were hung among the walls of the restaurant, which resulted in the perfect way to portray what street art is (also) about: gorgeous figures and outlines brought to life in canvases and posters for sale in a very crowded atmosphere.
“It’s about giving Art a value…”, said Stefan, artist from New York and founder of Elegel, about the purpose and mission of this ephemeral gallery that aspires to establish its own physical space in a near future. The artist made comments on how in Puerto Rico, art is not given enough credit, due in part to the actual economical crisis that the Island faces. Briefly, we commented on the casual and urban energy of the event and Stefan responded: “It’s a really chill event…” emphasizing that this is merely a part of what Elegel can do and that their intention was to incorporate the atmosphere of an art expo in a hangout.
Stefan also informed us about his web page www.las50.com, which operates as a tool to recruit artists with the purpose of transforming Loíza St. with art. When you access the page, you’ll know the reason of why he started this project, which in short is: “Using popular art to transform the street and drive business to the Calle Loíza”. We also spoke with Yum, one of the artists that has exposure in his page. When we asked her about the fusion of Flora and femininity in her work, she answered that her main purpose is to portray the strong link between the the feminine and nature.
We consider the exhibition and the atmosphere of Volando Bajito as a total success for urban art because thanks to their concept, the space provides a wide array of posible expositions and oportunities for artists in Calle Loíza. Stefan proves that the combination of art with the entertainment and fluidity of hanging out is brilliant! Elegel is in a constant search for artists that want to be part of their movement and the resurgence of Calle Loíza.
