La galería de arte de la Universidad del Sagrado Corazón (USC) inaugurará el jueves, 16 de febrero la exhibición individual, ENCUENTRO, del artista puertorriqueño Máximo Rafael Colón.
La exposición consta de 64 fotografías en blanco y negro impresas en gelatina de plata y tres devocionales realizados con materiales descartados. El trabajo fotográfico del artista se distingue por ser fotografía de documentación social.
“Ha sido mi anhelo y sueño dar a conocer mi trabajo en la tierra que me vio nacer, la patria mía, Puerto Rico. Las fotos hablan de la comunidad que compartimos, de las luchas que hemos llevado para la sobrevivencia y la justicia social por nuestras familias, y para la educación de nuestros hijos, entre otras cosas. En ellas los rostros de las personas están llenos de las historias en que sin palabras nos dicen de sus resistencias y tristezas”, expresó el artista, quien lleva poco más de 50 años radicado en Nueva York.
Colón pertenece a la segunda ola de puertorriqueños que emigró a los Estados Unidos. Su trabajo fotográfico de los años setenta está marcado por el enfoque de la realidad social del puertorriqueño y las minorías raciales. De esa época, se observa un enfoque de la condición humana, los movimientos activistas en pro de la igualdad y la marginación social de la comunidad puertorriqueña en la ciudad de Manhattan.
“Quiero expresar mi profundo agradecimiento a las profesoras Adlin Ríos Rigau y a Laura Bravo, quien se dio a la tarea de investigar y dar a conocer el esfuerzo y arte de la diáspora. Han hecho mi sueño realidad y es un honor poder presentar mis fotos en la galería de la Universidad del Sagrado Corazón”, añadió Colón.
Como parte de la programación educativa de la exposición, el artista realizará una serie de recorridos guiados para los estudiantes y el sábado, 25 de marzo conversará con el público en general a partir de las 2:00 pm. La exhibición, que es libre de costo, se extenderá hasta el 8 de abril.
La Galería está localizada en el patio interior del edificio Barat Sur de la U.S.C en Santurce, Ave. Ponce de León, Parada 26 y media. A "Meeting" with Máximo Rafael Colón
The art gallery of the University of the Sagrado Corazón (USC) will inaugurate on Thursday, February 16, the solo exhibition ENCUENTRO by the puertorican artist Máximo Rafael Colón.
The exhibition consists of 64 black and white photographs printed in silver gelatine and three devotionals made with discarded materials. The photographic work of the artist is distinguished because of its social documentation content.
"It has been my longing and dream to make known my work in the land that gave birth to me, my Motherland, Puerto Rico. The photos speak of the community we share, of the struggles we have waged for survival and social justice for our families, and for the education of our children, among other things. In them the faces of people are full of stories in which without words they tell us about their resistance and sadness", said the artist, who has been in New York for more than 50 years.
Colón belongs to the second wave of puertoricans who emigrated to the United States. His photographic work of the seventies is marked by the social reality approach of puertoricans and racial minorities. From that time, we see a focus on the human condition, the activist movements for equality and social marginalization of the puertorican community in the city of Manhattan.
"I would like to express my deep gratitude to the teachers Adlin Ríos Rigau and Laura Bravo, who have dedicated themselves to the task of investigating and publicizing the effort and art of the diaspora. They have made my dream come true and it is an honor to be able to present my photographs in the gallery of the USC", added Colón.
As part of the educational program of the exhibition, the artist will conduct a series of guided tours for students and on Saturday, March 25 he will talk to the general public from 2:00 pm. The exhibition, which is free of cost , will be extended until April 8 of this year.
