Estos son días buenos para la escena de música independiente puertorriqueña. Seis de nuestros artistas emergentes (sí, leíste bien, seis), están a punto de plantar bandera en uno de los festivales de entretenimiento más grandes del mundo; donde el cine y la música se unen por 10 días para abrirles puertas a nuevos talentos. ¿De qué estamos hablando? del SXSW (South by SouthWest), llevándose a cabo en Austin, Texas, del 10 al 19 de marzo. ¿Y nuestros artistas? Pues nada más y nada menos que la banda de rock al ternativo Nutopia, el canta autor Jorge Chafey, la agrupación de música Indie Balún, los raperos Audri Nix y Álvaro Díaz y nuestro querido René Pérez (Residente).
Tenemos a Jorge Chafey, quien con sus letras y funk pone a bailar a cualquiera. Después de lanzar el año pasado su última producción discográfica, “Carpe Diem”, Chafey está ready para conquistar el mundo en este 2017 y está 'on fire'. El pasado 10 de Febrero, se presentó en el primer Green Sofa Sessions EVENT by AL Magazine, dejando al público sediento por más. Para el 20 de febrero nos presenta el video de "Soledad", más adelante veremos otra producción videográfica del tema "Te Azota", en el mes de marzo hará a todo el mundo bailar en Austin, Texas como uno de los Official SXSW 2017 Showcasing Artists, como si fuera poco este año decidió lanzar su nuevo EP titulado "Terapias Rítmicas" y para verlo en vivo pronto, se estará presentando el 25 de febrero en Lote 23.
Para que Chafey pueda conquistar el público de Texas, necesita un pequeño empuje por parte de nosotros para poder transportar a sus músicos. Por eso se ha dado a la tarea de crear una campaña de lo más chévere, (tipo MTV Cribs, shh.) para poder dar el salto al SXSW. En su magnífica campaña, cualquier aportación es bienvenida, pero si das un poquito más, puedes llevarte geniales regalos a cambio de parte de Jorge, así que no esperes más para dar ese click.
Por otro lado, Nutopia ofrece un musicón rockia’o y con estilo. Con su canción más reciente, “Simpatía” están conquistando el mundo poco a poco (dejándose oír en Argentina, México, Venezuela y Uruguay) y en el mes de marzo les toca a los escenarios del SXSW. Adicional a esta aventura, Nutopia está en proceso de sacar su próxima producción, “Huye”, para el verano 2017.
Luego está Balún, con una mezcla de indie electrónico y sonidos latinos. Aunque son de San Juan, Puerto Rico, residen y hacen lo suyo en la ciudad de Nueva York. Este grupo fue nombrado uno de los "Latin Artist to Watch" según Pandora para el 2017, así que, denle una escuchadita a su último trabajo "La Nueva Ciudad" para que vean lo mucho que les va a gustar.
Porque tenemos un poco de todo, el ya resonado rapero Álvaro Díaz, también estará haciendo al público escuchar sus líricas. Este ha logrado llevar su música a España, México, Chile y Estados Unidos y está en la lista de "Artist Spotlight" de Spotify. Álvaro sacó un disco nuevo a finales del año pasado llamado "San Juan Grand Prix" y está ready para comerse el mundo.
También metiéndole a la escena del Rap, estará participando Audri Nix, quien con tan solo 22 años ha sabido hacerse sentir con su beat sensual, tanto así que también es mencionada en la lista de "2017 Latin Artist to Watch" de Pandora. En el 2016 sacó su primer EP "El Nuevo Orden Vol. 1" y este año está lista para el próximo, titulado "Niña de Oro".
Finalmente, explorando un poco otros territorios, el ya reconocido mundialmente René Pérez (Residente), quien recién comenzó su carrera como solista, no estará cantando, si no que estará presentando un documental que nace de una prueba de ADN con la que decide buscar sus ancestros mientras graba su último disco, que por fin saldrá el mes de marzo.
Esto es todo un eventazo que hay que seguir de cerca con tantos de los nuestros por allá. Así que, siéntate a explorar toda esta buena música por que ahora tienes nuevos artistas locales a quien seguir y escuchar!

THE 6 local bands TO PRESENT AT THE SXSW FESTIVAL
These are good days for the Puerto Rican independent music scene. Six of our emerging artists (yes, you read well, six), are about to show what they're capable of at one of the world's biggest entertainment festivals; where cinema and music come together for 10 days to open doors for new talent. What are we talking about? Of SXSW (South by SouthWest), taking place in Austin, Texas, March 10-19. And our artists? Nothing more and nothing less than the rock band Nutopia, the singer Jorge Chafey, the indie band Balún, the rappers Audri Nix and Álvaro Díaz and our dear René Pérez (Residente).
We have Jorge Chafey, who with his lyrics and funk makes everyone dance. After last year's release of his latest album, "Carpe Diem", Chafey is ready to conquer the world in 2017 and he's on fire. This past February the 10th he presented at the first edition of the Green Sofa Sessions EVENT by AL Magazine leaving everyone thirsty for more. On February 20 he presents the video for "Soledad", later we will see another video production of the theme "Te Azota" in March he'll finally make everyone dance in Austin, Texas as one of the Official SXSW 2017 Showcasing Artists. To top it all off this year Chafey decided to release his new EP titled "Terapias Rítmicas". To catch him live soon, he'll be presenting this February 25 at Lote 23.
So that Jorge can conquer the public of Texas, he needs a small push on our part to be able to transport his musicians. That is why he dedicated to the task of creating a super cool campaign (like MTV Cribs, shh.) To be able to make the leap to SXSW with the rest of his band. In his magnificent campaign, any contribution is welcome, but if you give a little more, you can take great gifts in exchange for Jorge, so think no more and go on and make that click.
On the other hand, Nutopia offers a rocky and stylish music. With their most recent song, "Simpatía" they are conquering the world little by little (being heard in Argentina, Mexico, Venezuela and Uruguay) and in the month of March it touches the scenes of the SXSW. In addition to this adventure, Nutopia is in the process of getting its next production, "Huye", for the summer of 2017.
Then there's Balún, with a mix of electronic indie and Latin sounds. Although they are from San Juan, Puerto Rico, they reside and do their thing in New York City. This group was named one of the "Latin Artist to Watch" by Pandora for 2017, so, give a listen to their latest work "La Nueva Ciudad" to see how much you'll like them.
Because we have a little bit of everything, the already resounding rapper Alvaro Diaz, will also be making the public listen to his lyrics. Álvaro has managed to bring his music to Spain, Mexico, Chile and United States and is in the list of "Artist Spotlight" on Spotify. Álvaro released a new album late last year called "San Juan Grand Prix" and is ready to eat the world.
Also entering the scene of Rap, will be participating Audri Nix, who with only 22 years has known how to make herself be heard with sensual beat, so much so that it is also mentioned in the list of "2017 Latin Artist to Watch" Pandora. In 2016 she released her first EP "El Nuevo Orden Vol. 1" and this year is ready for the next, titled "Niña de Oro".
Finally, exploring new territories, René Pérez (Resident), who has just started his solo career, will not be singing, but will be presenting a documentary that is born of a DNA test with which made him go look for his ancestors while recording his latest disc, which will finally be out on March.
This is a great event to be following closely with so many of ours over there. So, sit down to explore all this good music because now you have all these new local artists to follow and listen to!
