El pasado 13 de octubre de 2016, la galería Km 0.2 abrió su sala para presentar una de las propuestas más retantes y gustosas para los amantes del arte contemporáneo puertorriqueño, Habitáculo, de la impecable y curiosísima artista de nuevos medios, Carola Cintrón Moscoso. La muestra comprende una instalación multimedios en la que la artista apela a un estado sensorial intenso, basta con estar allí, para saberse perdido en una pequeña sala llena de acertijos sensoriales.
Esta muestra trabajó el concepto de la fragilidad, el vacío, el espacio que habitamos y habita en nosotros de manera estupenda. Las sensaciones que se experimentaban estando solo en sala eran maximizadas a medida que te adentrabas en la interpretación de los objetos. El cristal resaltaba esa sensación de admiración dado a su fragilidad, mientras el sonido te incitaba a el acercamiento, inclusive al tacto de esa extraña biosfera creada en sala.
Una de las piezas que componían la instalación, era una hermosa cuenta de brillantes que daba espacio a un sin número de interpretaciones igualmente frágiles como las trompetas en cristal que allí sonaban. Fue toda experiencia la exhibición, algo muy característico de esta artista y su trabajo. Sin embargo, fue muy poca la literatura que explicaba lo que ocurría en sala, y entendiendo la complejidad de una exhibición enteramente sensorial, es un poco ardua la tarea de reseñarla.
Los aspectos de superioridad en varios de los objetos era evidente. Mientras una bocina pequeña intentaba reproducir un sonido un tanto claro e inteligible, otra bocina más grande reproducía un sonido anulador, es decir un sonido que por su frecuencia opacaba el sonido de la bocina pequeña. Una metáfora interesantísima y con unas posibles lecturas muy fuertes en su contexto. Lo mismo ocurría entre dos trompetas en cristal que también reproducía un sonido particular, aunque en estas el concepto de acaparamiento era mucho más legible, ya que en su presentación la trompeta grande estaba prácticamente absorbiendo la trompeta pequeña.
Tal vez, la pieza más notoria para algunos fue el famoso cristal grabado. Este presentaba una serie de configuraciones hechas con las formas de las trompetas, en las que se podía leer una metáfora que igual aplicaba a la unión de dos entes en un mismo resultado si se leía de izquierda a derecha, como la separación de ambas trompetas, si su lectura era hecha de derecha a izquierda.
Debo anotar la impecable trayectoria de esta académica, en la que nunca ha presentado una sola pieza mal trabajada. Esto me remonta a los años entre 2004 y 2005, momento en que conocí por vez primera su trabajo. Era un pequeño cofre musical en el que la muñeca que giraba era una imagen en video de ella misma y el trayecto hacia la pieza estaba lleno de alfileres. De ese momento en adelante he perseguido su trabajo, pues su ejecutoria es digna de apreciar.
En resumen, la muestra fue toda una experiencia que valía la pena visitar antes que desapareciera del panorama y continuar con la investigación del trabajo de estos grandiosos artistas no comerciales que tiene nuestro circuito artístico. Gracias a Km. 02 por gestar tan excelente exhibición y por mantener ese vivo contacto con estos intelectuales de los nuevos medios artísticos en la isla y acercarnos cada vez más a los nuevos hitos plásticos de Puerto Rico. Esperemos que el compromiso de este espacio perdure y siga nutriendo el área de Santurce con estas exquisiteces.
Last October 13 of 2016 the gallery Km 0.2 opened its hall to present one of the most challenging and tasteful proposals for puertorrican contemporary art lovers, Habitáculo (“Carrier”), from the impeccable and very curious new media artist, Carola Cintrón Mosocoso. The exhibition comprises of a multimedia installation in which the artist appeals to a sensorial state, it is enough to be there, to get lost in a small room full of sensorial riddles.
This exhibition worked the concept of the fragility, the emptiness, the space that we inhabit and dwells in us in a stupendous way. The sensations that were experienced while being in the room was maximized as you entered the interpretation of the objects. The crystal highlighted that sense of admiration given to its fragility, while the sound incited you to the approach, even to the touch of that strange biosphere created in room.
One of the pieces that made up the installation was a beautiful account of bright that gave space to a number of equally fragile interpretations like the crystal trumpets that sounded there. It was all experience the exhibition, something very characteristic of this artist and her work. However, there was very little literature explaining what was happening in the room, and understanding the complexity of an entirely sensorial exhibition, it is a bit arduous to review it.
The aspects of superiority in several of the objects were evident. While a small horn tried to reproduce a somewhat clear and intelligible sound, another larger horn reproduced a muting sound, that is to say, a sound that, by its frequency, was muting the sound of the small horn. A very interesting metaphor with possible and strong readings in its context. The same thing happened between two trumpets made of glass that also reproduced a particular sound, although in these the concept of hoarding was much more readable, since in its presentation the big trumpet was practically absorbing the small trumpet.
Perhaps the most notorious piece for some was the famous engraved glass. This one presented a series of configurations made with the trumpet forms, in which a metaphor could be read that equally applied to the union of two beings in a same result if it was read from left to right, like the separation of both trumpets, if the reading was done from right to left.
I must note the impeccable trajectory of this academic, in which she has never presented a single piece poorly worked. This goes back to the years between 2004 and 2005, when I first met her work. It was a small musical chest in which the wrist that turned was a video image of itself and the path to the piece was full of pins. From that moment forward I have pursued her work, as her execution is worthy of appreciation.
In summary, the show was an experience that was worth the visit before it disappeared from the scene and continue the investigation of the work of these great non-commercial artists that has our artistic circuit. Thanks to Km. 02 for generating such an excellent exhibition and for maintaining that close contact with these intellectuals of the new artistic means on the island and getting closer to the new plastic landmarks of the island. We hope that the commitment of this space will last and continue nourishing the area of Santurce with these delicacies.

Trabajé como docente en el MAPR y actualmente tengo mi proyecto R Woodworks establecido en Santurce Pop. Soy apasionado de las artes plásticas, la arquitectura, la cocina y los libros. Mi trabajo o propuesta artística responde a la creación de esculturas y diseño industrial con materiales que encuentro en la calle y que de alguna manera u otra, su historia me invita a seguir haciendo otra historia en ella… de ahí salen los objetos de diseño industrial.
