Walter Otero Contemporary Art se complace en anunciar la exhibición individual Jun Martínez: Ein Waldgänger (Un emboscado) curada por Omar-Pascual Castillo. La misma, inaugura el 16 de diciembre en Nova Invaliden Galerie en Berlín, Alemania.
Jun Martínez: Ein Waldgänger (Un emboscado), es la primera muestra individual del artista fuera de Puerto Rico, marcando un momento importante para su carrera ya que comienza a establecer su presencia el mundo internacional del arte. Con su práctica plein air, Martínez se retira a espacios rurales para pintar en su obra el paisaje Puertorriqueño. Visitando distintos bosques de Puerto Rico, el artista busca acercarse a su entorno con empatía, concentrándose en sentir la vida que habita en el lugar. Mediante pinceladas sueltas y capas gruesas de óleo, sus obras son el testimonio de su experiencia junto a la naturaleza. Mediante el trabajo de Jun Martínez, Berlín tendrá acceso a la flora Puertorriqueña a través de los ojos del artista.
Comenta el curador sobre su obra, “en medio de una selva de pantallas (muchas de ellas hasta táctiles), inmerso en un paisaje de imágenes digitales que lo rodean, el joven artista puertorriqueño Jun Martínez simula estar siguiendo el sendero marcado por el filósofo alemán Ernst Jünger en su magistral libro La emboscadura, y se embosca. Evita la selva urbana, el global-universo-cosmopolitista de las mass media y la tiranía de la tecnología (quizás bajo los efectos de la techno-fobia) y recurre al campo, al bosque tropical, el monte, a la natura salvaje, el amado solitudinem de los románticos; y allí, se oculta para re-presentarla hecha pintura. Regresando sobre los carpenterianos “pasos perdidos” de la gran pintura naturalista, pero impregnado también con la gestualidad libertina de quien ha vivido el post-modernismo en su aprendizaje.”

Walter Otero Contemporary Art is pleased to announce the exhibition Jun Martínez: Ein Waldgänger curated by Omar-Pascual Castillo opening Friday, December 16th, 2016 at Nova Invaliden Galerie in Berlin, Germany.
Jun Martínez: Ein Waldgänger is the first exhibition of the young emerging artist outside of Puerto Rico, marking an important moment in his career. With his plein air practice retires to rural areas in order to paint the Puerto Rican landscape. As he visits different forests in Puerto Rico, the artist approaches his surroundings with empathy, focusing on the life and energy that inhabits each selected space. With loose brushstrokes and thick layers of oil paint, Martínez' work is a testimony to his experiences with nature and through it, Berlin will have access to the Puerto Rican flora as seen through his eyes.
Omar-Pascual comments on Martinez’ work, “in the midst of a jungle of screens (many of them even tactile), immersed in a landscape of digital imagery that surrounds him, young Puerto Rican artist Jun Martínez seems to be following the path marked by the german philosopher Ernts Jungen in his book Der Waldgang. Martínez avoids the urban jungle, the global cosmopolite universe of mass media and the tyranny of technology (maybe under the effects of technophobia) and turns to the country side, the forest, the mountains, to
savage nature, to the beloved solitude, of the romantics in order to recreate nature in his paintings. A return to the carpentinian “lost steps” of the great naturalist paintings, but also charged with the freed gesture of one who has experienced postmodernism throughout his formation.
