Angel Pagán es maestro de historia, tiene 34 años y un hijo, que al igual que él, crecerá rodeado de arte gracias a su padre. El trabajo visual de Angel Pagán nos presenta cosas abstractas como una emoción, o como en el caso de su colección, Botánica, imágenes figurativas cuya belleza , debido a la rapidez con que la que vivimos, puede pasar desapercibida ante nuestros ojos. Sus piezas son unas que invitan a detenerse y a apreciar, a observar realmente lo que nos rodea y a entender que somos parte. Pernoctar, es su firma, pero también su medio y su propósito.
¿Por qué pernoctar?
Bueno, pues realmente lo que busco es que las ideas que surgen y que son plasmadas en mis dibujos pernocten de alguna manera en el subconsciente de quien lo ve… De la misma manera en que vemos, vivimos, algo intenso durante el día en algún lugar, o interactuamos con algo o alguien, y al acostarnos en la cama, eso que vimos o vivimos, pernocta en nuestros recuerdos.
¿Desde cuándo estás ligado a la pintura y el dibujo?
Básicamente desde niño, ya que mi padre es artesano y siempre estuve en ese ambiente del arte. Desde adolescente me gustaba dibujar, pero no fue hasta el 2007 que retomé el dibujo y con el deseo de tener mis propias t shirts con mis diseños comencé a pintarlas a mano. Poco a poco las personas me preguntaban y me hacían pedidos con mis diseños. Al mismo tiempo, seguía desarrollando distintos aspectos de mi arte, como por ejemplo, comencé a darle color a mis dibujos, más tarde comienzan los post en instagram, y a la gente le fue llamando la atención. Luego surge la idea de entregar la t shirt en un recipiente de lasaña, cuya tapa llevara un dibujo de acuerdo al diseño que lleva la t shirt y a la misma vez la t shirt va a tener un tag del mismo diseño. En otras palabras, al comprar la shirt, te estás llevando dos piezas de arte. Más tarde, un día en casa de los suegros tumban un árbol de almendro y comienza a picar rodajas de madera del árbol, fue ahí cuando me enamoré de la madera. De ahí en adelante la mayor parte de mi arte se ha enfocado en la madera. Cabe mencionar que he hecho varios murales y actualmente ando trabajando en unos.
¿Cómo comienza #artepernoctando?
#artepernoctando comenzó con la necesidad de tener archivo exclusivo de mis trabajos en mi página de instagram, ya que desde que la abrí nunca pensé que la utilizaría para promover mi arte. Y a la misma vez, que las personas me fueran conociendo y tuvieran ese acceso a las mismas.
¿Qué promueves con tu trabajo?
Realmente nunca me he planteado promover algo en especifico, siempre me dejo llevar por las emociones del momento, las ideas que me llegan o simplemente plasmar lo que me llame la atención. Creo que la colección botánica es el primer intento de promover algo en especifico.
¿Qué medios te gusta combinar?
Los medios que mayormente suelo combinar (no todo el tiempo) son el collage con la madera o papel y acrílico. Me gusta ver como los colores y las texturas de los dos medios se complementan, ya sea por los colores o por las imágenes.
¿Qué hábitos crees que pueden mejorar nuestra relación con la naturaleza?
Nacido y criado en Utuado donde la mayor parte del tiempo lo que te rodea es naturaleza, creo que una de las mejores maneras de crear hábitos que nos ayuden a mejorar nuestra relación con la naturaleza, es teniendo plantas en tu hogar. El tener plantas en tu hogar te ayuda a tener esa interacción con esa planta y entender que es un ser vivo que necesita de una atención y cuidado como cualquier ser humano. Visitar nuestros bosques, playas, ríos. Sacar tiempo para tener contacto con la naturaleza, ayudarán a que se valore más lo que tenemos.
¿Cómo complementa tu arte el utilizar pedazos de madera para trabajar sobre ellos?
Como mencione anteriormente, desde que hice el 'click' con la madera no he podido dejar de utilizarla. Desde el punto de vista artístico, los colores y texturas de cada madera te dan una oportunidad para explorar y combinar ciertos colores e ideas. Desde el punto de vista decorativo, la madera le da un toque súper vistoso a cualquier pared o rincón de alguna casa o apartamento. Y al fin de cuenta, la madera es un pedazo de naturaleza que llevarás a tu hogar.
¿Qué te provoca hacerle oda a las plantas con tu trabajo?
En este caso de las plantas, quise resaltar sus particularidades, ya sean los colores, las formas, la delicadez de sus hojas y complementar con los colores de los pedazos de madera. También quise plasmar la buena vibra que proyectan estos seres vivos en una ciudad donde son bien limitadas las áreas verdes.
No importa dónde esté plasmado, Angel Pagán nos muestra que el arte es arte y puede expresar lo que sea. Ya sea un pedazo de madera, una pared, un envase de aluminio, cualquier cosa sirve para crear, solo es necesario escoger un momento, y pernoctar...

Angel Pagán is a history teacher, he have 34 years old and one son, that like him, will grow surrounded by art thanks to his father. Why ‘Pernoctar’?
Well, really what I'm looking for is that the ideas that come up and that are captured in my drawings lie somehow in the subconscious of those who see it...In the same way that we see, we live something intense in the day somewhere or interacted with something or someone and then we go to bed and that thing we saw or lived stays overnight ('pernocta') in our memories.
Since when are you bound to painting and drawing?
Basically since my childhood, my father is a craftsman and I have always been in that environment of art. When I was a teenager I liked to draw but it was not until in 2007 I started drawing again and with the desire to have my own t shirts with my designs I started to paint them by hand. Little by little, people asked me and ordered my designs. At the same time I continued to develop different aspects of my art, for example, I began to color my drawings, later the posts began in Instagram and the people caught their attention. Then it came the idea of making some packaging to the t shirts I sold, which consists of basically delivering the shirt in a lasagna container where the top is designed according to the design that carries the shirt and at the same time the shirt has a tag of the same design. In other words, when buying the shirt you are taking two more pieces of art. Later, one day at the in-laws' house they knocked down an almond tree and started to chop wood slices from the tree, that's when I fell in love with the wood. From then on most of my art has been focused on wood. It is worth mentioning that I have made several murals and I am currently working on some.
How did #artepernoctando begin?
#artepernoctando started with the need to have an exclusive archive of my works on my Instagram page, since since I opened it I never thought I would use it to promote my art. And at the same time that the people knew me and had access to them.
What do you promote with your work?
I have never really thought about promoting something specific, I always let myself be carried away by the emotions of the moment, the ideas that come to me or simply capture what strikes me. I think the botanical collection is the first attempt to promote something specific.
What media do you like to combine?
The means that I mostly combine (not all the time) is the collage with wood or paper and acrylic. I like to see how the colors and textures of the two media complement each other, either by colors or by images.
What habits do you think can improve our relationship with nature?
Born and raised in Utuado where most of the time around you is nature, I think one of the best ways to create habits that help us improve our relationship with nature is to have plants in your home. Having plants in your home helps you to have that interaction with that plant and understand that it is a living being that needs attention and care like any human being. Visit our forests, beaches, rivers. Taking time to get in touch with nature will help to value more of what we have.
How does your art complement the use of pieces of wood to work on them?
As I mentioned earlier, since I 'clicked' with wood I could not stop using it. From the artistic point of view, the colors and textures of each wood give you an opportunity to explore and combine certain colors and ideas. From a decorative point of view, the wood gives a super touch to any wall or corner of a house or apartment. And at the end of the day the wood is a piece of nature that you will take to your home.
What causes you to make ode to the plants with your work?
In the case of plants, I wanted to highlight the particularities of plants, whether their colors, shapes, the delicacy of their leaves and complement with the colors of the pieces of wood. I also wanted to capture the good vibes that these living beings project in a city where green areas are very limited.
No matter where it is captured, Angel Pagán shows us that art is art and can express anything. Whether a piece of wood, a wall, anything to create, it is only necessary to choose a moment, and to 'pernoctar' ...
