Ca.vier o Carlos Javier, es un artista de técnica mixta de padres puertorriqueños y norte americanos, nacido en Puerto Rico y criado en República Dominicana. Actualmente basado en Nueva York, Ca.vier (su seudónimo), se ha hecho nombre y espacio en la escena del arte norte americana. Destacado por su intervención artística sobre imágenes de modelos en las páginas de reconocidas revistas de arte y moda contemporánea, Ca.vier se inspira en la tecnología, ciencia, naturaleza, sentimientos y el cuerpo de la mujer.
En su último viaje a su país natal, tuvimos la oportunidad de pasar una tarde con él en el Viejo San Juan y hacerle unas cuantas preguntas a este tremendo y creciente artista que tanto nos intriga. Explora con diversos medios y coquetea con diferentes tipos de expresión artística como la carpintería, la moda y el video. ¿Quién es Ca.vier?
Ca.vier: Nací en Puerto Rico y fui criado en República Dominicana. Regrese a mi isla natal más adelante para estudiar y
obtener mi bachillerato en Diseño Gráfico. Esto encendió una llama en mi por el arte. Al finalizar
mis estudios decidí perseguir algo más grande relacionado al arte, en la gran jungla de concreto,
Nueva York.
¿Cuál es tu mayor aspiración como artista?
Ca.vier: Mi mayor aspiración como artista es inspirar y unificar el mundo creativo e intelectual.
Quiero crear un colectivo global entre artistas para así llevar al siguiente nivel el arte de cada
individuo.
¿Qué medios utilizas? ¿Cuáles son tus predilectos?
Ca.vier: Entre los varios medios que prefiero usar se encuentran: el papel (de todo tipo), tinta acrílica,
tinta a base de alcohol, paneles de madera y canvas. Sus predilectos son cualquier tipo de pintura
líquida que al mezclarse ocasionan alguna reacción química de una manera natural. Por otro lado,
el también uso pluma y otros medios secos para ilustrar sobre imágenes de revistas de moda dándole
otra vida a las fotografías.
¿Algún color o paleta de colores preferida actualmente?
Ca.vier: Actualmente la paleta de colores que utilizo son cálidos y de
tonos terrosos, al igual que el blanco, negro y dorado.
A la hora de crear, ¿qué decisiones tomas? (si alguna) para que el espectador observe o interprete las obras de una manera específica.
Ca.vier: Realmente mis decisiones son instantáneas. A veces no pienso lo que voy hacer y qué mensaje
quiero llevar. Cuando planifico una ilustración es impresionante hasta para mí. El detalle de la ilustración
aumenta o disminuye dependiendo de la intención con la que empiezo.
¿Qué te inspira?
Ca.vier: La tecnología, ciencia, naturaleza, sentimientos y el cuerpo de la mujer.
¿Cómo describirias tu proceso creativo?
Ca.vier: Mi proceso creativo cambia constantemente, como había mencionado, depende de mi intención
o lo que sienta, así será el resultado de la pieza. Por lo general el proceso es bien divertido.
¿Qué es lo mas que disfrutas hacer dentro del proceso creativo?
Ca.vier: Lo más que disfruto durante mi proceso creativo es tomar café y escuchar música.
¿Consideras que tu educación formal, influencie directamente tu arte? ¿Cómo?
Ca.vier: Pienso que mi educación formal influencia indirectamente mi arte. No lo pienso pero sé que
la estructura del diseño gráfico está en mi mente, y surge cuando estoy haciendo diseños bien
detallados a mano. También lo veo en la manera que creo diferentes capas sobre mis diseños.
¿Alguna influencia externa?
Ca.vier: La música para mí sería un tipo de influencia alterna.
¿Hay otros campos que exploras o deseas explorar? ¿Cuáles?
Ca.vier: En un futuro no muy lejano me gustaría dirigir un video o que mis creaciones cobren vida en
algún filme corto. También me gustaría construir y diseñar.

Ca.vier or Carlos Javier, is a mixed media artist of Puerto Rican and North American parents, born in Puerto Rico and raised in Dominican Republic. Currently based in New York, Ca.vier (pseudonym) has made himself name and space in the north american art scene. Better known by his artistic intervention over model images of great art and contemporary fashion magazines, Ca.vier gets inspired by technology, science, nature, feelings and the woman's body.
@ca.vier In his last trip to his native country, we had the opportunity to spend a whole afternoon with him in Old San Juan and make a couple of questions to this great and upcoming artist that intrigues us so much. He explores with numerous mediums and flirts with diverse types of artistic expressions such a carpentry, fashion and video. Who is Ca.vier?
Ca.vier:I was born in Puerto Rico and raised in the Dominican Republic. Later on I returned to my native island to study and obtain a bachelor’s in Graphic Design. This ignited a flame in me for the arts. After finishing my studies, I decided to pursue something bigger related to the arts, in the great concrete jungle of New York.
What’s your biggest aspiration as an artist?
Ca.vier: My biggest aspiration as an artist is to inspire and unify the creative and intellectual world. I want to create a global collective between artists in order to get every individual’s art to the next level.
What mediums you use? What are your favorites?
Ca.vier: Between the several means that I prefer to use are: paper (any kind), acrylic ink, alcohol based ink, wood panels and canvases. His favorites are any type of liquid paint that when combined causes some chemical reaction in a natural manner. On the other hand, he also used feathers, and other dry means to illustrate over images of fashion magazines, giving another life to the pictures.
Any preferred color or palette of colors?
Ca.vier: Currently the color palette that I use is of warm and earthy tones and also white, black and gold.
When creating, what’s your decision making? (if any) for the viewer to observe and interpret the works in a specific way.
Ca.vier: Really, my decisions are instantaneous. Sometimes I don’t think what I want to do and what’s the message that I want to bring. When I plan an illustration it is impressive even to me. The illustration’s detail increases or decreases, depending on the intention in which it was started.
What inspires you?
Ca.vier: Technology, science, nature, feelings and the body of a woman.
How do you describe your creative process?
Ca.vier: My creative process is in constant change, like I mentioned before, it depends on my intention or what I feel and that shall be the result of the piece. In general, it’s a really fun process.
What’s the thing that you enjoy most in the creative process?
Ca.vier: What I enjoy most during my creative process is drinking coffee and listening to music.
Do you consider your formal education to be of direct influence in your art? How?
Ca.vier: I think that my formal education influences indirectly my art. I don’t think about it, but I know that the structure of graphic design is in my mind and it comes out when I’m doing very detailed designs by hand. I also see it in the way I create different layers over my designs.
Another external influence? Which?
Ca.vier: Music for me would be a type of alternate influence.
Other fields you explore or would like to? Which?
Ca.vier: In a not so distant future, I would like to direct a video, or that my creations came to life in some short film. I would also like to build and design.
