Beta-Local se complace en presentar la exhibición individual sujeto/objeto de Ramón Miranda Beltrán, becado del programa La Práctica. La apertura de la exhibición tendrá lugar este viernes 10 de Junio de 6pm a 9pm en la Casa del Sargento, calle Sol #300.
La exhibición sujeto/objeto presenta una serie de obras nuevas relacionadas:
esculturas, fotografías proyectadas en diapositiva y un libro de artista. Este conjunto
de obras propone una relación entre los materiales y formas que componen el
entorno construido y la forma en que estos a su vez estructuran la relación entre
el territorio y el sujeto.
Las esculturas incluidas en sujeto/objeto están construidas de cemento y maderas
nativas a Puerto Rico: árbol de maga y palma real. Algunas de las esculturas se
apoyan de las paredes e interrumpen la arquitectura de la sala de exhibición. Otras
sirven de soporte a estructuras de cemento. Contienen un vocabulario común: formas
elementales, de materiales accesibles, soportes evidentes, maderas nativas lijadas y
barnizadas, a escala humana. Los objetos de cemento son pesados a simple vista, se
recuestan, acuestan y apilan, apoyados sobre calzos de cemento, corteza de palma real
o las paredes de la sala.
Las fotografías son vistas hacia el litoral de San Juan desde dos espacios emblemáticos:
Paseo Caribe, y desde Caribe Plaza, específicamente desde un apartamento modelo y un
“co-working space” para individuos parcialmente residiendo en Puerto Rico cobijados
bajo las nuevas leyes de exención contributiva. Estos dos desarrollos urbanos de vivienda
y trabajo, construyen un nuevo sujeto desde su relación a la propiedad y al lugar como
paisaje. La vista indica la posición del sujeto desde el interior; los espacios domésticos y
de oficina se ven reflejados en el cristal que los separa de la “vista al mar”. El territorio y
el sujeto se construyen uno en relación al otro en términos materiales—-cemento, cristal,
aluminio,—- y en términos simbólicos, posición, marco legal, representación del litoral
como “espacio natural”.
Ramón Miranda Beltrán (San Juan de Puerto Rico, 1982) vive y trabaja en Puerto Rico.
Es un artista con formación de el School of the Art Institute of Chicago y la Universidad
de Puerto Rico. Su obra se ha expuesto en Matadero Madrid, el Museo de la Fotografía
de California (CMP), el Museo de Arte Contemporáneo de Puerto Rico, el Museo del
Barrio de Nueva York y en la 2da Trienal Poli/Gráfica de San Juan. Entre sus exposiciones
individuales destacan “Somos Polvo” en el CAAM de Gran Canarias, “My Kind of Town”
en Julius Cesar, Chicago y “Arte Lima” (2013), curada por Octavio Zaya, entre otras.
También ha participado en distintas muestras colectivas recientes celebradas en la ciudad
de Atlanta, Gran Canaria y en Puerto Rico.

Beta-Local is pleased to announce the individual exhibition sujeto/objeto ("subject/object" in english) by Ramón Miranda Beltrán, recipient of the scholarship program La Práctica. The exhibition's opening will take place this friday June 10th from 6pm to 9pm [at La Casa del Sargento, Sol st. #300].
sujeto/objeto presents a series of related new pieces: sculptures, projected photographies in slides and an artist's book. This group of pieces propones a relationship between the the materials and shapes that composes the setting constructed and the way that these at the same time give structure to the relation between the territory and the subject.
The sculptures included in sujeto/objeto are built of cement and native woods of Puerto Rico: maga tree and palma real. Some of the sculptures hold themselves off the walls and interrupt the exhibition room's architecture. Other serve as support to concrete structures. They hold a common vocabulary: elementary shapes, of accesible materials, evident brackets, sanded and varnished native woods, in human scale. The concrete objects are heavy at first sight, they lean, rest and stack, supported over cement wedges, palma real (native tree) crust or from the room's walls.
The photographs are sights to the San Juan coast from two emblematic spaces: Paseo Caribe, and from Caribe Plaza, specifically from a model apartment and a co-working space for individuals partially residents in Puerto Rico sheltered under the new tax exemption laws. These two housing developments for living and working, build a new subject from their relationship to the propriety and place as landscaping. The sight indicated the subject's position from the interior; the domestic and office spaces are reflected in the glass that separates them from "the ocean view". The territory and the subject build one in relation to the other in material terms-- cement, glass, aluminum-- and in symbolic terms, position, legal frame, the coast representation as "natural space".
Ramón Miranda Beltrán (San Juan, Puerto Rico 1982) lives and works in Puerto Rico.
Is and artist with academic formation in the School of the Art Institute of Chicago and the University of Puerto Rico. His works has been exhibited in Matadero Madrid, in the California Museum of Photography (CMP), the Museum of Contemporary Arts of Puerto Rico, el Museo del Barrio New York and the Second Poly/Graphic Triennial of San Juan. Among his individual exhibits, "Somos Polvo" at the CAAM from Gran Canarias, "My Kind of Town" in Julius Cesar Chicago and "Arte Lima" (2013), curated by Octavio Zaya, among others, stand out. He has also participated in several collective shows recently celebrated in Altanta City, Gran Canaria and Puerto Rico.
